We try to fulfill orders as soon as possible but please understand that we pick the fruit you have ordered after your order has been placed. Yes, that’s right! Each fruit is hand selected and harvested at its peak of ripeness. We ship within 24 hours of the day we pick. We ship via FedEx 2nd day air. We ship usually only on Tuesday. What this really means is sometimes, depending on Mother Nature’s ripening schedule for each field and the fact that we ship on Tuesdays, it may take 2-14 days, sometimes longer to fulfill your order. There is always a banner on the homepage of the website that will have information about any anticipated delays in shipping. The confirmation of purchase email will also elaborate on any anticipated delays in shipping. Once the order has been fulfilled and we drop it off at the FedEx shipment center it takes another two business days for it to be delivered by FedEx to your doorstep.
-
You will receive an email indicating your order has been received and another email indicating when I have fulfilled (harvested and packed) your order and you will also receive a shipping confirmation via FedEx when your package has shipped as well as a delivery confirmation from FedEx when the package has been delivered to the shipping address you listed.
-
If you have a special date you want your fruit delivered by please type the requested delivery date in the Additional Instructions box, which is located on the cart page of the website. Here at Hole in the Mountain Farms, home to Kauaʻi Sugarloaf Pineapple we pride ourselves in personalized service and I will do everything I can to pick, pack and have your order arrive as close as possible to the requested date. Since we pack and ship usually on on Tuesdays specific delivery dates should be on Thursday as we use FedEx 2nd day service. There are some addresses in the Western states that qualify for an automatic upgrade to FedEx overnight service. Of course there is no additional charge for this as it happens automatically from my administrators page if the shipping address listed is an address for which FedEx can delivery overnight, in which case delivery would be on a Wednesday, not Thursday.

I am sorry but we only ship within the United States.

We suggest placing Christmas delivery request orders early, ideally before Thanksgiving, definitely within the first week or so of December. Be sure to request Christmas/Thanksgiving/Other Holiday delivery in the Additional Instructions box in check out and if possible give us a window of dates for delivery. We are a small company, with just three employees and there are only so many pineapples that can be harvested, prepared for shipment, and packaged on any given day. The number of ripe pineapples that are suitable for harvest is also limited on any given week. You can help us out and increase the odds your gift will be shipped in time for Christmas/Thanksgiving or other holidays by ordering early and giving us a range of dates that are acceptable for delivery.
About Sugarloaf Pineapple

Paul & Jude have been growing the Sugarloaf variety of white pineapple, exclusively, for over fifteen years on their farm in Moloaʻa.

We only sell fruit picked at its peak, it’s ready to eat if you bought it from us. Sugarloaf Pineapple is more delicate and should be eaten within a few days. If you want to save it you should refrigerate this pineapple and enjoy within a week or so. When perfectly ripe, a Sugarloaf pineapple has a green rind with yellowing inside of the “eyes”. It should not be dark forest green and it should not be all yellow or gold and it should not be purple on any side.

Kauaʻi Sugarloaf Pineapple is popular because it is easily the best pineapple in the world. One taste and you will readily agree. I really have never met a person who did not agree with this evaluation. The most commonly heard comment at my market table is, “Oh my gosh, that is the best pineapple I ever had!” People are genuinely surprised at the sweet, smooth taste when they try it. Kauaʻi Sugarloaf Pineapple is a natural variety, Mother Nature created this one. This is the original low-acid pineapple, with a creamy juicy-sweet white flesh. The flesh is softer, much sweeter, and does not cause the problems associated with the acid/enzyme combination in yellow pineapple, such as burning/stinging or sore areas in the mouth. The core is even soft and sweet, not woody and stringy and completely edible. It is easier to cut and enjoy as you don’t have to remove the core, in fact it’s so soft you’ll hardly be able to tell the difference between the fruit and the core. And, as I like to say, it’s expensive enough, at least you don’t need to cut out the core.

First and foremost, Kauaʻi Sugarloaf Pineapple’s sweetness is due to the variety, it is a natural variant of Smooth Cayenne discovered in the fields of Lanai many years ago. The heavenly balance between flavor and sweetness in this variety is so perfect, creating the sweetest, most flavorful pineapple on earth, combined with the low acid of this variety and you have the best tasting pineapple in the world. We add the farm fresh aloha and with decades of specialized cultivation techniques, and our obsession with only harvesting field ripened Kauai Sugarloaf Pineapple I believe the Sugarloaf Pineapple grown on our farm is some of the sweetest produced anywhere in the world.
-
Yes, we employ a very labor intensive method of harvest. We walk the fields every two days, hand selecting only the field ripened pineapple, we never strip a row of pineapple to harvest. This ensures field ripened perfection, maximum sweetness and full flavor on each and every Kauaʻi Sugarloaf Pineapple we grow. It is important to note that without proper cultivation techniques leaving the pineapple in the field longer will not automatically produce a sweeter pineapple. The soft flesh of this rather delicate pineapple often requires that we cover the fruit with paper to prevent sunburn and allow it to fully ripen without over-ripening, another labor intensive practice. So although we are very experienced pineapple farmers, first and foremost it is this natural variety of Sugarloaf that is perhaps the most important factor in determining how sweet the fruit is.

*We do not have sales from our farm, we are a private farm and we do not have a storefront*
We sell fruit at the Puhi Park Produce Farmers market on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.. This Puhi Park market has replaced the Saturday market that was held, prior to Covid-19, at the Kauai Community College (KCC). We also attend the Wednesday afternoon Kauai Culinary Market, the Gourmet Farmer’s Market, at The Shops at Kukuiula in Poipu from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.. At either of these markets we provide fresh cut samples of Kauai Sugarloaf pineapple for everyone attending the market who would like to try this special variety. Most markets do not allow farmers to provide samples due to Health Department Regulations but these two markets allow a farmer who has a health certified kitchen and the proper paperwork to provide samples. We have both. We love sharing our pineapple with as many people as we can and of course that creates lots of happy customers. Be forewarned, it you taste this you are going to want to buy one. More details and directions to local markets. -
Yes, if fact we reliably sell out of our entire stock of ripe Kauaʻi Sugarloaf Pineapple almost every market with only a few exceptions. I usually bring many pineapples of varying sizes to the markets. There have been times when I had only 20 or so that were ripe, selling out in quickly 15-20 minutes. We currently have eleven acres in pineapple – that’s over 250,000 plants in the ground – and more being planted, so availability and supply are increasing all the time.
-
The Kauaʻi Sugarloaf Pineapple sold on Kauai at the markets I attend is priced per fruit at about $4.25 per pound. The varying sizes of Mother Nature’s crop translate to Kauaʻi Sugarloaf Pineapples that sell for $10.00-$25.00. There have been a few gems that sold for over $25, including one record breaking ten-pounder.

We pick and sell the same day for Wednesday’s market and we pick the night before for the morning market on Saturdays. This ensures that every pineapple we sell is the freshest fruit possible. For shipments through our website we pick and ship within 24 hrs using FedEx 2nd day air. Please understand that we can’t always pick and ship the day you order. In fact, depending on the ripening characteristics of each field, and that I ship only on Tuesdays, it may take 2-14 days, sometimes longer, to fulfill your order and bring it to FedEx for shipment, which as I mentioned takes two business days. More details about shipping are in the Ordering and Shipping section of FAQ.
