Abundance

At Hole in the Mountain Farms we are really grateful for the growing stream of orders as well as for an especially abundant spring/summer harvest this year. Although our website advertises that each pineapple is approximately 4lbs, Mother Nature has been very generous lately and so we have been shipping larger fruit, when available, as our way of sharing the bounty with our customers (at no extra charge, of course). Repeat customers often get an extra adorable mini pineapple in their boxes. These little ones take the same amount of time to grow and are just as delectable. While they are almost too cute to eat, Kauaʻi Sugarloaf is too delicious to just look at. Kauaʻi Sugarloaf is available year-round from Hole in the Mountain Farm. We’re currently planting another new field to keep up with all the new orders. Pineapple takes about…

Cool Hunting

We were excited to find our white Sugarloaf Pineapple featured recently at coolhunting.com, a leading web publication highlighting “creativity and innovation in design, technology, style, culture, food and travel”. http://www.coolhunting.com/food-drink/kauai-sugarloaf-pineapple.php They discovered us at the market while visiting Kauaʻi recently and tasting our sample was enough to convince founder and editor in chief Josh Rubin to write us up for publication.

Fresh harvest of Sugarloaf Pineapple

We have lots of Sugarloaf Pineapple ripening in the fields now. It’s been a slow couple of months but I am happy to report that now I will be at the usual markets regularly. Wednesdays from 3:30pm at Kuku`iula Gourmet Farmer’s Market (directions) Saturdays from 9:30am at Kaua`i Community Market at KCC in Puhi For full details and calendar see Local Markets.

Wednesday market at Kukuiʻula

The summer crop continues to ripen with plenty of fruit available this week. This afternoon I will be at the Wednesday (July 10) market at Kuku`iula Gourmet Farmer’s Market (directions), with plenty of samples and plenty of Kauaʻi Sugarloaf Pineapple.

Great market at The Shops at Kukuiʻula

This market is a joint venture between The Shops at Kukuiʻula and Kauai Farm Bureau. Its a really fun gourmet market with lots of samples, and variety, food demonstrations and an outside bar. We had plenty of samples of Sugarloaf Pineapple and sold out by about 5pm. A little boy, maybe 7 yrs old,  begrudgingly took a sample and after tasting it exclaimed, “Oh my God, that’s delicious!”

Free Drawing for a Kauaʻi Sugarloaf Pineapple

I’ll be attending the Kauaʻi Community College farmer’s market in Puhi tomorrow Saturday, June 29. It starts at 9:30am. There is going to be a free drawing and some lucky winner will take home a gigantic Kauaʻi Sugarloaf Pineapple (pictured below). Please come early if you want to buy one of my extra sweet, field ripened Kauaʻi Sugarloaf White Pineapple because I will only have a few this week. I only pick what’s absolutely perfectly ripe for your enjoyment and mother nature limited my choices for market. As always, I will have lots of free samples available for you to taste.

Kukuiʻula Market

I am so excited about harvesting today for tomorrow’s Kauaʻi Sugarloaf Pineapple sales at the Kukuiʻula Culinary Market in Poipu.  The Kukuiʻula Market is a gourmet farmer’s market and has an eclectic selection of Kauai Grown and Kauai Made products.  Come visit me and say hi.  There is always plenty of free samples of Kauaʻi Sugarloaf White Pineapple at my table.  I will have fresh Kauaʻi Sugarloaf Pineapples for sale as well as chilled take-out trays of freshly sliced Sugarloaf. I have to save a few Sugarloaf to share though because Marta Lane is going to do a culinary romp through my farm on Thursday.  Check her out at TastingKauai.com an online resource dedicated to eating well on Kauaʻi. Planting Kauaʻi Sugarloaf White Pineapple in Hawaiʻi

Paul has been a busy little beaver.  With his #1 assistant, our little Parson Russell Terrier, Panda, he has planted another 500 Kauaʻi Sugarloaf White Pineapple plants.  Paul’s extensive hands on experience with good old fashioned traditional propagation techniques has rewarded him.  That and too many to count hours of work has allowed Hole in the Mountain to keep planting new fields so we can continue to enjoy Sugarloaf Pineapple year round.  The myth that Sugarloaf is a summer crop will fade away as we work hard to bring back some of the earlier days in Hawaiʻi, when Sugarloaf was more readily available. P.S. see you this Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at the Kukui’ula Gourmet Farmers Market at the Kukui’ula Shopping Center in Poipu.  I’ll have plenty of free samples of just picked Kauaʻi Sugarloaf White Pineapple for you to…
